Take a leap and learn to cable! The Ballard Beanie by Sari Nordlund is a perfect way to learn the basics of cable knitting. In this online class, choose from a short brim or long brim hat and in three sessions you’ll learn how to do a tubular cast on, cable with and without a cable needle, basic shaping increase and decrease techniques plus how to read a chart. 

Skills needed: Working knowledge of knit and purl stitches, knitting in the round plus casting on and binding off. Knitters have knit a hat before.

Class Dates:

Tuesdays, April 21 & 28; May 5 from 10-11:30am

  • Each class will be recorded. The link will be emailed within 24/hr of class.
  • All online classes are taught live via Zoom and feature two cameras. Learn all about our classes here.

Fee: $65

Materials:

  • Ballard Beanie by Sari Nordlund pattern available here or on Ravelry
  • Short Brim: 145/175 yards (130/160 m) of worsted weight yarn
  • Long Brim: 187/225 yards (170/205 m) of worsted weight yarn
  • The pattern has great yarn suggestions
  • US#4/3.5mm, 16″/40cm circular needle for brim
  • US#6/4mm, 16″/40cm circular needle for body of hat
  • US#6/4mm double pointed needles or preferred method for crown
  • 6 locking stitch markers, one unique from the others
  • Cable needle
  • Tapestry needle
  • Washi tape or small post-it notes
  • Optional materials: needle point protectors, scissors, small measuring tape

Knit Work: Have all of your materials ready and yarn wound for the first class.
